Veterans Day 2011
A story that has not been told except those who know me.
As a bus driver for Cheatham County, I was asked to do a special trip for the HHS.
Off we went to go cook for the Veterans, at the Pegram Station .
The kids scarmbled around cooking , setting tables for folks that will be there to eat.
Once they were done, folks started showing up, but there was one that could not make it. He was the father of our Music teacher at the Kingston Springs Elementary School.
He could not come to eat with the students for he had no ride, I spoke up and said i would go pick him up with my bus. This was a wonderful occasion and felt he needed to be there.
I loaded myself , a parent, and 2 students on the bus, and drove just a short distance down the road to pick hime up.
I drove down the street where he lives, and when i had a gentleman in sight, He was standing on the side of the road waiting to be picked up , just like the kids do in the morning.
I was in awe , for i get to drive a veteran to lunch.
As we drove to lunch he stated that he had never in his 96 years of living life has he ever rode a school bus before.
To me that was a priviledge in itself, just to know he sat on the front seat of my bus.Not many can say they have done this if any. But to me that was the best day ever.
He ate lunch with the kids, and we took some snappys for the day.
Off we went all the students and teachers to take him back home.
